DTA

So i think ive already written something about my theater im in but before i start i would like to say.. actually comment... i look at all my posts and i realize how relaxed it is. everyone elses blogs are so nicely written i guess i just dont have that "talent."
Anyways back to the subject. So im in this theater company is called Downtown Art. I have been a part of dta for 3 years now. i have been in 3 musicals one which is in process right now. It is an opera. I really like it. In the begining no one really liked it in our cast but i personally loved it fromt he begining.
oh!!! I just realized one reason why i dont write that often, its cause after writing about a paragraph i get really bored! I get distracted!! did you know the teenage attention span is like 10 seconds!? I guess thats pretty much true!
ok back to the subject. The reason i started writing this about my theater company because a lot has been happening within the little groups formed in the company. Its too complicated to explain in detail but lately groups have been forming sort of like clicks and its weird because the company used to be like a big lovable family. now i feel like its becoming into a tyupical... i dont know! I always thought this theater company was different but now... anyway im not taking it that hard, i just know that even though this theater is so special to me it allows me to write a really long blog entry with only one disruption!
ok anyway im sorry if this entry is all over the place

the first family member to arrive in the US

This is another HW assignment about my families history, (props to Aunt Pat)
In London, my ancestor John Gassaway was a cobbler, I think.
He moved to Maryland in the mid-1600s, and settled in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was one of the founders of London Town, Maryland. I don't think they were rich, but they weren't poor either. Very soonafter they arrived in America one of the Gassaway ancestors married into aQuaker family. The Quakers were very plain, and they didn't believe infancy decorations or shows, so I think they probably kept their Christmases low-key. They probably went to church and maybe had a bigger than usual meal. I doubt if they exchanged presents, though. My connection to the Gassaway family comes through my Grandpa, Norris Tummons. His great-grandmother was named Susan Trantham. She was born in 1843. Her great-great-great grandfather was a Gassaway. When I was about 8 years old I went to Washington to visit my aunt and my uncle, on that trip, we drove to London Town and Annapolis and saw where some of the Gassaways were buried.

The Gassaways were the first in my family as far as I know to settle down in the US but I think the first people in my family to celebrate the holidays were of my mom’s generation. Every year her 3 brothers and 2 sisters would all get together at their mother’s house and have a big meal, and then when the brothers had kids the entire family would go to Grandma’s house for Christmas and it became a yearly tradition.
I am the youngest in the family and by the time I came into the picture the tradition had formed into a big get-together then a feast then a trip to sing carols at the nearest nursing home around the corner.

Merry Christmas 2008!

Ok so this is a homework assignement that i had to do and i thought it would be a nice thing to post so here it is:
To start off the upcoming year and to get holiday spirits ready for the holidays every year at the United Nations on the 11th floor my mom’s office has a Christmas party where there’s music and food and everything you need to have a perfect party, everyone usually brings one thing to contribute to the party and my mom and I brought a trifle. This year there were a whole group that was new to the office that were young and called “The Youth Group”. They were the one’s who organized the party this year and they had a Karaoke and pin the nose on Rudolf. The party ended up having so much fun with the Karaoke we never got a chance to do pin the nose on Rudolf but I’m sure every one didn’t mind, they were too busy singing to Girl Just Want To Have Fun.
This year was the third year my mom and I celebrated the holidays differently than the last 9 years. My mom and I used to go to my mom’s home town in Bolivar Missouri and celebrate the holidays and the up coming New Year with the entire family but sadly my grandmother died in 2005 and my grandfather died in 2004 my mom and I spent the Christmas here in New York. Spending Christmas had been a tradition in my family for 50 years.
This year my mom and I spent Christmas Eve at home with my mom and my pet dog, Cheerio. One of my mom’s best friend came to visit and had dinner with us, we had a really good fish from Canada that had a weird name, I can’t remember the name. My mom had never cooked it before but this year she thought a home made meal would be a nice treat. (our kitchen is really small, it can barely fit two people in it, when my mom was building her apartment she wanted a small kitchen because she thought she would never use it.)
On Christmas day my mom and I had a lunch at a Chinese restaurant with a whole group of people that have been our friends for a long time. It was a great lunch but my mom and I had to make sure we didn’t eat that much because we were going to have dinner with one of my mom’s co workers who is one of mom’s really good friends at work. The couple who have been married for 20 years were famous singers, the husband was in a band call The Yayhoos and the wife was a singer who has a couple albums Mary Lee’s Corvette, I have allot of both their music on my ipod. After having Lunch the fathers of the group took me and the other kids to Central Park to go ice skating but the line was formed all the way around the park so instead we decided to go on the Merry Go Round, which I think was just as fun. While we were on the merry go round the mothers were getting massages.
At the couple’s house they had a great ham that was so delicious my mom and I brought a spinach casserole which I find really good and another person who was also invited, he brought his girlfriend and Cole Slaw. The Ham was so delicious, every time I have any other ham I always seem to compare that ham to the one I had at Mary Lee’s, no other ham could be better! While we were eating there was music playing from a Cd they get every year for the holidays from Eddy Gorodetsky, (the creator of Two and a Half Men.)
The day after Christmas my mom had to work so I went with her and let me tell you, when you’re a kid trying to meet her mom at the gate in front of the UN you have to go through allot to get in the building. My mom has worked at the UN for maybe 10 years, I visit her at the office allot but I have to talk to the security guard first then call my mom from their phone then my mom has to go down stairs from the 11th floor to pick me up then go to the 11th floor again. But anyway, when I met her she brought me to this building where I was going to learn how to use makeup on an Asian face. Truthfully I think I went there because my mom just wanted to park me somewhere so I wouldn’t get too bored and I have to say learning how to put on eyeliner and eye shadow actually did help.
After the makeup party around 5:30 we went to visit the same group we had lunch with at the Chinese restaurant. (We like to se them, they like to have parties). So the reason we were visiting them again was because every year one of the family in the group has a party at their house to celebrate Boxing Day. Boxing Day is a British holiday that was celebrated where the higher class gave presents to their servants and then it turned into a day where everyone would go around popping into people’s houses to visit. Our tradition is celebrated a little different; we stay at the same house for about 4 to 5 hours and have fun. I had a great time and my mom and I ended up being one of the last to leave along with another family with their kid who is my age, he is now a good friend of mine and we hang out allot now with the kid who lives in the house.
I guess even though the tradition of my mom and I going to Missouri for Christmas is over we have a couple of new traditions that have begun here in New York.
I did not mention it when I was talking about it but last year, Christmas of 2007 we were invited for the first time to Mary Lee’s house for dinner on Christmas this year was our second time, I hope they invite us again because I not only love the ham they had but I really like being with them. The UN party is also another great tradition and I’m glad it is because that is always a fun party to be at. The Boxing party too is another great tradition, I love being with that group of people and I hope that tradition never fades. I hope none of these amazing traditions that I realized are great traditions never fade.

untitled

I haven't blogged in a while I guess I was never in the mood.
I have to be in the mood to type something that means something.
Christmas is coming soon but thanksgiving is coming sooner, but I guess you already knew that.
Anyway so this is my story, its about total randomness so if you get lost, i don't blame you.

Ramen noodles are really good, but when you put two eggs in them instead of one and scramble then its just too much for a person can handle. I would know because I just finished eating a bowl with two eggs in them.

You may or may not have noticed but right now I am typing with a missing e and a missing 3 the reason is because for the past couple of days the w key has not been working so I would have to make sure that i press extra hard on it, then today mom realized so she thought blow drying the keyboard might get whats stuck in it out. Turns out when you blow dry a key board on high the keys start to melt and some will pop out, this is exactly what happened.

This is exactly what a teen does, write total randomness on stuff that is well, random!

Anyway, I'm back, you didn't notice but I stopped typing for about the res of the day and now its the evening and I have allot to say now that's worth saying.

After saying ".....random!" mom had come back from the deli and Duane Reade. She bought Dr.Peppers and poster board and super glue to glue the key pieces back together to the board. After about half an hour tyring to figure out how to get the key to work we pretty much gave up. The super glue did not work. Then mom decided to go to Circut City and maybe try to figure out how to fix the key board with a professionals help. Then when she came back, she said that it would cost allot of money to get it fixed so she decided she would try and figure out another way to fix the key board. We then came with a good idea to just go out and buy a usb key board and connect it to the computer, that was exactly what happened next and now I am typing with a new black key board that totally doesn't match the computer but at least it works right?

Now... back to the rest of this random blog. Are you adventures with food? Do you try anything haded to you? I do. I just finished eating Nutella on a slice of bread and I thought of the times where i had the weirdest combinations of food. Here's a list of weird combos:
bread and ketchup
pickle and apple sauce
french fries and nutella
tostito chips and rainbow frosting
raisin bran and hot chocolate
a slice of bread and mustard and butter
Now, there are many more but i cant seem to remember the other combinations, I do remember though at some point when you were in the mod and just felt like going crazy each one of those combinations weren't actually that bad.

OK so now I guess I'm done with all my random memories and ideas but if i do come up with anymore ill be sure to blog it. OK uh... bye.

DTA

Downtown Art
DTA is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me, when I first turned 12 right away I got excited for the audition to get in.
DTA is a theater company that has been around for so long, since I think 1997.
The first ever show I saw at DTA was in 1999, Singing in the Rain.
DTA is run by a women named Ryan, she has a daughter and her daughter is usually in every single show. Ryan will either take a play or musical that has already been written and interperate it in her own way or write a whole new one herself from her imagination.
I remember when I was maybe 8 years old, I was waiting at the bus stop with my mom to go to school and Ryan's daughter walked by. I yelled out "Look mommy, thats Dakota Scott!" Dakota was probably really weirded out, she waved at me and continued walking on. HAHA that was really funny. I was embarressed.
I am currently in my second year of being in DTA. The first year I was in an original musical production, Ryan wrote herself called The piemaker, then I was in the DTA festival. Now I am in an interpretaion of the Twelfth Night, (a musical). My character is a pretty main part, I am Mariah, the assistant/ Maid of I think the queen. I get to come up of an evil scheme to revenge Malvolio. I also get to learn about Shakespear and how to talk like him too, it's really fun, especially when we get to make up our own dance moves for the dance sequences.
I really like Downtown Art and I really think it's helped me develope my personality and acting skills, I guess you could say DTA is like my second home.
