Merry Christmas 2008!

Ok so this is a homework assignement that i had to do and i thought it would be a nice thing to post so here it is:
To start off the upcoming year and to get holiday spirits ready for the holidays every year at the United Nations on the 11th floor my mom’s office has a Christmas party where there’s music and food and everything you need to have a perfect party, everyone usually brings one thing to contribute to the party and my mom and I brought a trifle. This year there were a whole group that was new to the office that were young and called “The Youth Group”. They were the one’s who organized the party this year and they had a Karaoke and pin the nose on Rudolf. The party ended up having so much fun with the Karaoke we never got a chance to do pin the nose on Rudolf but I’m sure every one didn’t mind, they were too busy singing to Girl Just Want To Have Fun.
This year was the third year my mom and I celebrated the holidays differently than the last 9 years. My mom and I used to go to my mom’s home town in Bolivar Missouri and celebrate the holidays and the up coming New Year with the entire family but sadly my grandmother died in 2005 and my grandfather died in 2004 my mom and I spent the Christmas here in New York. Spending Christmas had been a tradition in my family for 50 years.
This year my mom and I spent Christmas Eve at home with my mom and my pet dog, Cheerio. One of my mom’s best friend came to visit and had dinner with us, we had a really good fish from Canada that had a weird name, I can’t remember the name. My mom had never cooked it before but this year she thought a home made meal would be a nice treat. (our kitchen is really small, it can barely fit two people in it, when my mom was building her apartment she wanted a small kitchen because she thought she would never use it.)
On Christmas day my mom and I had a lunch at a Chinese restaurant with a whole group of people that have been our friends for a long time. It was a great lunch but my mom and I had to make sure we didn’t eat that much because we were going to have dinner with one of my mom’s co workers who is one of mom’s really good friends at work. The couple who have been married for 20 years were famous singers, the husband was in a band call The Yayhoos and the wife was a singer who has a couple albums Mary Lee’s Corvette, I have allot of both their music on my ipod. After having Lunch the fathers of the group took me and the other kids to Central Park to go ice skating but the line was formed all the way around the park so instead we decided to go on the Merry Go Round, which I think was just as fun. While we were on the merry go round the mothers were getting massages.
At the couple’s house they had a great ham that was so delicious my mom and I brought a spinach casserole which I find really good and another person who was also invited, he brought his girlfriend and Cole Slaw. The Ham was so delicious, every time I have any other ham I always seem to compare that ham to the one I had at Mary Lee’s, no other ham could be better! While we were eating there was music playing from a Cd they get every year for the holidays from Eddy Gorodetsky, (the creator of Two and a Half Men.)
The day after Christmas my mom had to work so I went with her and let me tell you, when you’re a kid trying to meet her mom at the gate in front of the UN you have to go through allot to get in the building. My mom has worked at the UN for maybe 10 years, I visit her at the office allot but I have to talk to the security guard first then call my mom from their phone then my mom has to go down stairs from the 11th floor to pick me up then go to the 11th floor again. But anyway, when I met her she brought me to this building where I was going to learn how to use makeup on an Asian face. Truthfully I think I went there because my mom just wanted to park me somewhere so I wouldn’t get too bored and I have to say learning how to put on eyeliner and eye shadow actually did help.
After the makeup party around 5:30 we went to visit the same group we had lunch with at the Chinese restaurant. (We like to se them, they like to have parties). So the reason we were visiting them again was because every year one of the family in the group has a party at their house to celebrate Boxing Day. Boxing Day is a British holiday that was celebrated where the higher class gave presents to their servants and then it turned into a day where everyone would go around popping into people’s houses to visit. Our tradition is celebrated a little different; we stay at the same house for about 4 to 5 hours and have fun. I had a great time and my mom and I ended up being one of the last to leave along with another family with their kid who is my age, he is now a good friend of mine and we hang out allot now with the kid who lives in the house.
I guess even though the tradition of my mom and I going to Missouri for Christmas is over we have a couple of new traditions that have begun here in New York.
I did not mention it when I was talking about it but last year, Christmas of 2007 we were invited for the first time to Mary Lee’s house for dinner on Christmas this year was our second time, I hope they invite us again because I not only love the ham they had but I really like being with them. The UN party is also another great tradition and I’m glad it is because that is always a fun party to be at. The Boxing party too is another great tradition, I love being with that group of people and I hope that tradition never fades. I hope none of these amazing traditions that I realized are great traditions never fade.
